Thunderbolt technology was released by Apple for its answer to USB 3.0. Thunderbolt is an interface port that is compatible with a small variety of external devices like hard drives and DVD-drives.

It has been rumored that ASUS plans on adding Thunderbolt to some of its upcoming Z77 and H77 chipsets based motherboards. As you can see from the picture, the header on the motherboard is label “TB_HEADER”. This is speculated to be a Thunderbolt I/O header for an add-on support card.

Here is a list of some of the motherboards with this type of header:

  • Maximus V Gene
  • P8Z77-V Deluxe
  • P8Z77-V Pro
  • P8Z77-V
  • Sabertooth Z77
  • P8H77-V
  • P8H77-M Pro

If you don’t know how Thunderbolt functions, here’s how:
